The winning factor for goal achievement

Increase your odds of completing a goal, task or activity by 95%!

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of finishing a goal. Big or small, it feels good to overcome and accomplish something worthwhile.

Goal setting and goal achievement are two different things. Most people set goals, but only few really make it to the finish line.

Why is that? Resistance. Every worthwhile goal, task or activity will be met by resistance. We default to avoiding it, even when we know it’s the key to success.

So how do push through? What gives us the advantage to achieve our goals?

The Association for Talent Development (previously ASTD) did some research and found that you are 65 percent likely to meet a goal after committing to another person. Which makes sense when you think of it, we’re social beings and thrive through relationships with others.

More-so, your chance of success increases to 95 percent when you build in ongoing meetings with another person to measure your progress.

What are your chances of completion?

According to the ATD findings…

If you have a defined idea or goal in your mind:

25% probability of completing your goal, promise, task or activity.

(good start)

If you consciously decide you will do it:

40% probability of completing your goal, promise, task or activity.

(commitment is key)

If you decide when you will do it:

50% probability of completing your goal, promise, task or activity.

(one day is better than someday)

If you plan how you will do it:

65% probability of completing your goal, promise, task or activity.

(having a system greatly helps)

If you commit to someone you will do it:

95% probability of completing your goal, promise, task or activity – If you have a specific accountability appointment with a person you’ve committed to.

(a system + ongoing relationship is the winning factor)

Relationships are powerful
